Luca Capelli

PhD Student

Email: luca.capelli@unipr.it

Luca is pursuing a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Technology at the University of Parma. He is interested in integrating tools and strategies from DNA nanotechnology with biosensor design. In particular, his research focuses on the use of CRISPR-Cas technologies and molecular translators for artificial communication between nucleic acid-based systems and specific proteins, including proteases and transcription factors.

Denise Di Lena

PhD Student

Email: denise.dilena@unipr.it

Denise is pursuing a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Technology jointly between the University of Parma and Ulisse BioMed (www.ulissebiomed.com). Her work focuses on the application of DNA nanotechnology to the development of molecular sensors for the detection of clinically relevant biomarkers. She is especially interested in the design of DNA nanoswitch technologies as optical biosensing platforms in the context of therapeutic drug monitoring.  Her PhD scholarship is sponsored by Ulisse BioMed and the Italian Ministry of University and Research.

Elena Spezzani

PhD Student

Email: elena.spezzani@unipr.it

Elena is pursuing a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Technology at the University of Parma. Her work focuses on the application of DNA nanotechnology to the creation of functional systems for programmable interactions with specific proteins. These include biomolecular sensors leveraging CRISPR-Cas technologies and supramolecular DNA origami platforms.

Emma Barilli

Undergraduate Student

Email: emma.barilli@studenti.unipr.it

Emma is an undergraduate student pursuing her master’s degree in Chemistry at the University of Parma. Her thesis work focuses on the design of new classes of multifunctional organosilica nanoparticles for nucleic acid delivery in the brain, including tests in cultured cells and animal models. Her project is a collaboration with the group of Prof. Claudia Bagni at the Department of Fundamental Neurosciences at the University of Lausanne, where Emma is a visiting student sponsored by an Erasmus+scholarship.

Angelo Presta

Undergraduate Student

Email: angelo.presta@studenti.unipr.it

Angelo is an undergraduate student pursuing his master’s degree in Genomic, Molecular and Industrial Biotechnologies at the University of Parma. His thesis project centers on integrating DNA-based hybridization chain reaction into protein sensors.

Anna Tortone

Undergraduate Student

Email: anna.tortone@studenti.unipr.it

Anna is an undergraduate student pursuing her master’s degree in Genomic, Molecular and Industrial Biotechnologies at the University of Parma. As part of her thesis program, she is doing an internship at DNA Phone (www.dnaphone.it), a company dedicated to the development and implementation of portable optical equipment for analytical chemistry applications. She is interested in developing a portable, low-cost spectrophotometer for on-site bioassays.
